Out of the Storm, Came Forth Sailor Girl Soap
Founder, owner and artisan Lori SiJohn lost her husband in December 2012. Her late husband Cliff , a Vietnam Veteran, suffered from an early and rapid onset of diabetes due to his exposure to Agent Orange. The most uncomfortable side affect was the constant itchiness, flaking, and severely dry skin. Lori tried everything and nothing worked. They were married for 11 years and she was his primary caregiver. The diabetes first took his eyesight, then his liver, kidneys, heart, and eventually his life. When he passed away, Lori felt she had no purpose or meaning anymore.
After years of feeling lost, Lori finally came out of the storm. She decided that she needed to help others, especially Vietnam Veterans. She knew firsthand the common side effects and illnesses associated with Agent Orange, so she started researching the benefits of coconut oil and started whipping up body butters in her kitchen. After using the whipped body butter, her eldest daughter Shaina said, "you need to start making soap too!" So Lori and Shaina became business partners and got to work. Never in her wildest dreams did Lori think a simple batch of whipped body butter would turn into an entire line of skincare products and a way to help others suffering from the same issues her beloved husband once had.
