Q: What’s the handmade difference?
A: Have you ever read the ingredients lists on most commercial bath and body products? We cannot even pronounce most of the ingredients let alone know what those chemicals are doing to our body. At Sailor Girl we provide 100% natural, handmade, good for you products that were meant to nourish not harm your skin.
Q: Is everything you sell handmade?
A: Yes all of our products are handmade from start to finish.
Q: So, what makes your soap so much better than other soap?
A: When you buy ANY handmade soap, your skin feels and looks better because you are using natural ingredients that are meant to moisturize and nourish your skin. The chemicals are left out so there aren’t any harsh ingredients stripping your skin of its natural oils leaving it tight and itchy.
Sailor Girl Soap & Supplies’s soap is no different, it’s better for you because it’s natural and you are being lathered up by Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, and Castor Oil. We do not use Palm Oil in any of our products.
Q: What’s Palm oil and why don’t you use it?
A: Although Palm oil does make a great soap; we decided at Sailor Girl that we wanted to be part of the solution not the problem when it comes to the use of Palm Oil. Palm oil is a type of edible vegetable oil that is derived from the palm fruit, grown on the African oil palm tree. Oil palms are originally from Western Africa, but can flourish wherever heat and rainfall are abundant. Today, palm oil is grown throughout Africa, Asia, North America, and South America, with 85% of all palm oil globally produced and exported from Indonesia and Malaysia; but most of the time not using sustainable measures.
The industry is linked to major issues such as deforestation, habitat degradation, climate change, animal cruelty and indigenous rights abuses in the countries where it is produced, as the land and forests must be cleared for the development of the oil palm plantations. In total, 50 million tons of palm oil is produced annually, supplying over 30% of the world’s vegetable oil production. This single vegetable oil is found in approximately 40-50% of household products in countries such as United States, Canada, Australia and England. Palm oil can be present in a wide variety of products, including: baked goods, confectionery, shampoo, cosmetics, cleaning agents, washing detergents and toothpaste.
Q: Are your products good for sensitive skin?
A: Yes our products are great for sensitive skin and/or easily irritated skin. They are naturally gentle and do not contain harsh chemicals or additives that are responsible for skin irritation. However, we do recommend testing our products first by using them on a small patch of skin for 24 hours. If redness or irritation develops, discontinue use. The information presented on this website is not meant to diagnose or treat any medical condition nor to replace the advice or care of a qualified health professional.
